Electric Storm

This painting was inspired by one summer thunderstorm I still think about. I was on a walk when a yellow hue settled over everything, like a filter applied to real life. The air began to buzz, as if kinetic energy were crowding the atmosphere. When I looked up, the clouds were churning so quickly it felt like I was watching a timelapse in real time. In the distance, thunder rumbled low and slow.

I made it home just before the rain came crashing down. And while the storm was every bit as furious as promised, it was the buildup that stayed with me. The subtle shift in light. The tension in the air. The feeling that something was about to happen. It was fleeting, and felt like a kind of beauty that can just pass by unnoticed if you aren’t paying attention. The beauty that exists just before a spectacle – that's what I wanted to preserve.
